Today in class we had a presentation with regards to the chapter in the "2010 State of the World: Transforming Cultures" on Education's New Assignment: Sustainability.
This particular chapter of the book focused on how mass social movements have the power to make changes.
The especially interesting part to me was the comparisons between the UK's work practices and our own. The statistic here that caught my attention was that the US has fallen to number 50 from 11th in life expectancy and we have done this to ourselves out of that crazy need to always be reaching for that almighty dollar.
We have become a nation of greed and until we all decide to ban together and stand up for less work hours, which could then be used for more social minded endeavors, we will never make a change and will continue to spiral down on this cycle.
The European system really seems to work for them and I personally know from those I have met on holiday that they are much happier for it.
STOP THE GREED already!!!!!! The Jones' really aren't that cool and we need to open our eyes to that and make the move as one to enact changes.
